Conservatives Pick Candidate for Hammersmith and Chiswick

The Conservatives have selected their candidate to contest the Hammersmith and Chiswick seat at the next general election.
34-year-old Andrew Dinsmore was chosen from a three person short list at a meeting at the George IV pub in Chiswick last Friday (21 October).
He is a commercial barrister specialising in shipping, fraud and general commercial work and currently sits as a councillor for Fulham Town ward on Hammersmith and Fulham Council and is deputy leader of the opposition group.
He attracted national press attention earlier this year when, after being the victim of a machete enabled robbery, he launched an online petition to the Home Office which received 140,000 signatures. He says this led directly to the inclusion of machetes in the ban of so-called ‘zombie’ knives from sale in the UK.
The Monday following his selection Mr Dinsmore visited Charing Cross Hospital with the Health Secretary, Steve Barclay MP, and the Party Chairman, Greg Hands MP. They met with the Chief Executive of the hospital to discuss the refurbishment plans.
Mr Dinsmore will fight the next general election (expected to take place in 2024) in the new seat created from three Chiswick wards and the central parts of Hammersmith including Shepherd’s Bush. He said, “I am absolutely delighted to have been selected as the candidate. I look forward to taking my work as a councillor forward in this fantastic area to campaign on transport, housing, health and crime.”
Mark Loveday, elected as Chair of the newly formed Hammersmith & Chiswick Conservative Association at the same meeting, said, “Andrew is someone who not only talks about soaring crime in Labour London, but does something about it. He beat a very good list of applicants for the nomination and will win for us here.”
The Labour candidate for the seat will be Andy Slaughter who has represented the Hammersmith constituency since 2010.
Pollsters still predict a Labour win in the seat despite the inclusion of the three Chiswick wards which have a higher Conservative vote. According to Electoral Calculus, Chiswick Homefields and Chiswick Riverside were the only two wards in the constituency where the Conservatives won a majority in 2019 and these are currently both predicted to switch to Labour leading the independent polling organisation to conclude a 99% likelihood of an Andy Slaughter win.
