Hounslow Council teams up with Turning Point April 17, 2023 Hounslow Council has joined forces with national health and social care provider Turning Point, to launch a new Young People’s Sexual Health Outreach Service for the borough. The new service provides young people up to 24 years old in Hounslow with free information, guidance, and support on all aspects of sexual health, contraception, and relationships. It will replace the existing young people’s sexual health outreach service previously provided by Brook. Team members from Turning Point and the Council plan to work directly with service users to develop a name and identity for the service. Turning Point will work with young people through schools, colleges, community groups and other local health services and organisations to deliver relationships and sex education, professional training, sexual health promotion and targeted one-to-one support. Welcoming the initiative, Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Adults and Health Integration, Councillor Samia Chaudhary, said, “Hounslow Council and its partners are committed to providing our young people with the very best support to help them feel protected, safe and to enable them to make informed choices about their health and relationships. “It’s so important that we let our young people know that we are standing by them, and we are here when they need help. “We are delighted to be working with an organisation with a proven track record like Turning Point on this new project. It’s exciting that we are involving our young people in developing the identity for the new service and we look forward to seeing the results.” Turning Point is a national social enterprise which supports more than 100,000 people nationwide. It provides more than 300 different services to communities across the country, including support for people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and substance misuse issues. Turning Point Chief Executive Julie Bass said, “We are thrilled to be working with Hounslow Council to support the borough’s young people. “We aim to provide them with the education and tools they need to practice good sexual health for the rest of their lives. “Working in partnership with the Council and other local organisations will allow us to provide a truly needs-based support service and achieve better outcomes for young people in Hounslow.” To find out more about the service, contact younghounslowRSE@turning-point.co.uk.
