Carnival Stabbing Victim Dies in Hospital

The 32-year-old woman who was stabbed at the Notting Hill Carnival last Sunday (25 August) has died in hospital.
Che Maximen had been in a coma since the attack but was pronounced dead on Saturday morning (31 August).
It is understood that she and her 3-year-old daughter found themselves in the middle of an altercation between two groups in the vicinity of Golborne Road, W10 at around 6pm.
The police arrested three brothers this Tuesday, one of whom, 20-year-old Shakiel Thibou of Masbro Road, W12, had been charged with attempted murder, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon and remanded in custody. The Crown Prosecution Service and the Metropolitan Police will now be reviewing this charge.
Shakiel Thibou appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday morning. He was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday, 25 September.
Two of his brothers have also been charged in relation to the same incident. 24-year-old Sheldon Thibou of Star Road in West Kensington faces charges of violent disorder, possession of a stun gun and assaulting an emergency worker. 22-year-old Shaeim Thibou of Charleville Road, West Kensington has been charged with violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker.
Detective Chief Inspector Alex Gammampila of the Met’s Homicide Command, who leads the investigation, said, “My thoughts are with Cher’s loved ones as they come to terms with this terrible loss.
“They are being supported by specialist officers and we will make sure that support continues.
“Cher was at Carnival with her young child. We have been in close contact with our local authority partners and Cher's family since soon after this incident to make sure the child is safe and looked after.”
Commander Charmain Brenyah, the Met’s spokesperson for Carnival, said, “The news of Cher’s tragic death is devastating for her family, the wider community and all those involved in delivering the Notting Hill Carnival.
"Carnival is about bringing people together in a positive celebration. That it has ended with the tragic loss of life, among other incidents of serious violence, will sadden everyone involved."
