Celebration of Women's Football in England Continues at Gunnersbury Park | |
Find out about those that paved the way for the Lionesses Although the 2022 Women’s Euro tournament has come to a successful conclusion, an exhibition on women’s football in England continues at the Gunnersbury Park Museum. The displays provide an opportunity to learn about the female players who came before the Lionesses putting them on a path that led to Chloe Kelly’s extra time winner and the moment Leah Williamson lifted the trophy at Wembley. The exhibition focuses on diversity and inclusivity seen across local and national teams – from the ground-breaking Black and Asian players of the 1990s, West London’s first football club for Afghan and Muslim girls, Abresham Girls FC, to the first out lesbian team. There is information about Brentford Football Club’s Griffin Park in women’s football history and the West London origins of ‘Bend It Like Beckham’. Items to look out for include kits from England legend Kerry Davis, Abresham FC, and Martine Rose’s ‘Lost Lionesses’ shirt as well as interviews with women’s football pioneers including Patricia Gregory and Brentford Football Club’s Rebekah Wiltshire. The exhibition is free and runs from 10am to 4.20pm every day except Mondays. No booking is required.
