Photographs documenting the golden years of Ealing Studios are to be published online by Gunnersbury Park & Museum.
The stills are the work of photographer Roy Gough who took pictures of film set, studios and the stars appearing that could be used to create the press and publicity for up-and-coming films when the studio was it its heyday.
Roy's extensive photo collection gives a backstage view to many of the classic films of the time including Whisky Galore!, The Titfield Thunderholt, The Lavender Hill Mob and many more.
The new online gallery showcases some favourites from over 2,000 prints held in Gunnersbury Park Museum’s Archive.

The gallery is complemented with oral histories from Roy himself on what it was like to work in the Studios and the characters he encountered along the way. He tells one story of how, when filming Whisky Galore! on location, the crew made a mode of a wreck but underestimated the strength of the winds and woke up the following morning to find their model wreck was an actual wreck. You can hear his full anecdote from working on the set of Whisky Galore! on the Isle of Barra on the Gunnersbury Park web site.

The online gallery also includes some short clips from the films and some reanimated images – putting the movie back into Roy’s photos.

Visitors will also be able to purchase prints of their favourite movies and actors, all available from the website.
