Local primary schools have once again been named among the best in the country at providing an effective education according to new Government statistics.

The Blue School, Isleworth, and St Mary’s RC Primary School, Chiswick received the fourth highest possible score in the country for their combined scores of 297 out of a possible 300 in the percentage of pupils achieving level 4 in maths, English and science.

KS1 to KS2 Value Added Measure assesses the performance of individual pupils between year two and year six by looking at test scores to see how much they have improved compared to pupils with similar KS1 test results. This provides a better indication of the effectiveness of a child’s education than looking solely at raw test scores as it measures the progress made. Cavendish Primary School in Chiswick, ranks in the top 100 schools in England for their value added scores.  52% of Cavendish's pupils manage to reach Level 5 at Key Stage 2 one of the highest levels in the borough.

Sustained improvement is the consistent increase in school’s results over the last four years.The Smallberry Green Primary School, Isleworth, is ranked 8th in the country for the sustained improvement in their performance.

Hounslow Local Education Authority was ranked third in the country in terms of performance by the Department for Education and Skills in their Achievement and Assessment value-added (VA) tables. These measure the improvement in test scores of individual pupils in English, maths and science between Key Stage 1 (age 7) to Key Stage 2 (age 11) and are recognised as giving the best view of how effective a school is.

Welcoming the Government’s acknowledgment of the effectiveness of the borough’s schools, Dr Bob Garnett, Director of Children’s Services and Lifelong Learning, said

“Everyone involved in education in the borough – heads, teachers, classroom assistants, support staff, and officers here in the council – can take an enormous amount of pride from these results.

“These tables show what many parents in the borough already know from experience – that our primary schools provide a first class environment for pupils to achieve excellent results. But tables can only go so far, and can only show so much. Behind the success of our schools lies a passion for education that cannot be measured, and a genuine desire to help every child in the borough achieve the start in life they deserve.”
