Large tree nearby severely damaged by recent storms

Ravenscourt Park has been shut as a huge tree could land on a children’s playground. The park in Hammersmith has temporarily closed after high winds severely damaged a large tree.

Storm Eunice battered London on Friday and a woman in her thirties was killed in North London when a tree landed on a passing car. Hammersmith and Fulham Council on Monday tweeted, “We have had to close Ravenscourt Park, Hammersmith, this afternoon.

“High winds have severely damaged a large tree, which has a crack at the root base and could potentially fall at any time. If it falls, it could land on the footpath or into the children’s play area. We will safely re-open the park as soon as we can.”

London councils have been cutting down trees and clearing debris in the aftermath of the storm. At least 1,000 people had to be evacuated from the 02 centre after its roof was shredded by strong winds.

All flights from City Airport were grounded and Londoners watched with bated breath as planes tried to land at Heathrow Airport during the height of the storm. The London Fire Brigade also declared a major incident due to the number of call-outs they received due to the storm.

In Westminster, roofs were blown off houses while fallen trees crushed cars across the city.
