An old fridge has been left attracting more fly-tippers on a West London street for over a month – as the council has failed to remove it.

The abandoned appliance has become part of the landscape of Hammersmith’s Leamore Street as it has been left undisturbed since August.

Josh Partridge, who lives on the street, said he reported the issue to Hammersmith and Fulham (H&F) Council last month.

He said, “Leamore Street is continually neglected and the end near the high street is the ugliest part of Hammersmith – always dirty, always rubbish dumped.”

The council said it was investigating the issue in August and would raise it with nearby shop owners but the fridge has still not been removed.

Josh said: “They never cleared the fridge and hence more rubbish has been stacked up.

“It’s been there for months now. It’s a never-ending issue.”

Leamore Street runs off Hammersmith’s main shopping route, King’s Street.

Hammersmith and Fulham had the highest fly-tipping rate in England in 2017/18.

The council received 18,236 reports of cases in 2020/21 and 19,638 in the previous year.

Fly-tipping is a criminal offence that can result in a fine of up to £50,000 and even five years in prison.

H&F Council did not prosecute any fly-tipping cases in 2020/21 or 2019/20.

The authority sent 5,427 warning letters for fly-tipping in 2020/21 and 2,263 in 2019/20.

The council has been contacted for comment.
