Local Borough Continues to Get Safer

Latest figures show sharp fall in violent crime in Hounslow

The publication of the latest crime figures by the Metropolitan Police shows that crime in the Borough of Hounslow continues to fall.

Ken Livingstone, the Mayor of London, today welcomed the latest crime figures, which show there has been a cut of 6.6 per cent in overall crime in Hounslow than in the same period last year. Gun-enabled crime is down by 19 per cent and violent crime against the person was down 12 per cent. (See table below for more details.)

He said, "‘Once again we have seen that crime is falling in Hounslow, which is good news for residents. There have been dramatic reductions in gun-enabled crime, murders and business crime, but we cannot afford to be complacent. With the further expansion of the Safer Neighbourhood Programme we will continue to tackle not only crime but the fear of crime in London.’

Violent crime in the borough also fell sharply. Rapes have risen slightly but the police attribute this to their campaign to get more people to report this crime. Robbery against the person and car crime have increased.

The Mayor pledged that by the end of December this year every neighbourhood in London will have community-based policing team of one sergeant, two police constable and three community support officers.

A recent Public Attitude survey for the Metropolitan Police Service has found that there has been a 10 per cent increase in the number of Londoners that said they feel safe walking alone in their local area at night. 64 per cent of Londoners said they were confident in policing in London. 63 per cent believe that community relations between the police and the public were good.
