Hartswood Road Man Accused of Glassing Woman | |
Altercation occurred during a dispute while watching rugby in pub A man from Hartswood Road in Shepherd’s Bush is facing a charge of racially aggravated grievous bodily harm after an incident in a pub in Fulham this July. 27-year-old Ben England was in the Woolpack pub in Fulham on 31 July this year watching the British and Irish Lions play a rugby match against South Africa on television. He started a conversation with a group of people in the pub who were supporting South Africa which was initially amicable. However, it is alleged that Mr England made a negative comment about the South African team prompting Kim Graham to throw a drink at him. A hearing at Isleworth Crown court heard the prosecution say that he then smashed a glass in her face. He was originally charged with grievous bodily harm with intent but an additional charge of racially aggravated assault was brought after the police said that the hostility of the severity of the attack was increased because he believed Ms Graham was South African. Mr England was bailed to appear again this Friday (7 October) at a plea and trial preparation hearing.
