Significant changes are due to take place to library services in the borough over the next few months.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council will be joining The Libraries Consortium (TLC) on 1 June 2022. It's a group of 21 public library authorities including Ealing, Hounslow and Brent that will give residents access to over seven million items including books, e-books and audiobooks.

You will also be able to visit any of the libraries in the consortium to borrow books and use the facilities including PCs and Wi-Fi.

At the same time the shared borrowing arrangement with Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster library services is ending. There will be a transition period of three months, from 1 March to 1 June.

Until 1 June, using your H&F library card you can:

  • access Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster libraries to borrow books in person
  • access Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster libraries to use Wi-Fi and PCs
  • request a new library card from any Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster library if you want to be able to reserve books via the online catalogue that are not H&F stock
  • request a new library card from any Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster if you want to continue using their library services after 1 June.

To help with the transition, we need you to make sure that any books belonging to Kensington and Chelsea Council or Westminster City Council are returned before the end of May 2022.

If you have a library book borrowed from any of the libraries in the three boroughs, look at the barcode label on your book to see who owns it.

If the barcode number starts 38005 then it is Hammersmith & Fulham Libraries stock and you can return it to us by the due date as normal.

If the barcode number starts with 30116 or 30117 return it to any of the council libraries in the three boroughs before the end of May 2022.

From 1 June 2022, when you are searching for items, you will find stock from all the libraries in The Libraries Consortium, giving you access to over seven million items. You will be able to reserve items as normal and ask for them to be delivered to your local branch for you to collect.

In addition to the online resources you can access at the moment, including:

  • over 100,000 ebooks, eaudiobooks, enewspapers, emagazines and digital articles through subscriptions to online databases
  • over 215 reference books through Oxford Reference and in an online reference library
  • over 1,000 newspapers through PressReader and a historical newspapers database, Times Digital Archive 1785-1985

You will also have access to nearly 60,000 digital books plus almost 5,000 magazines, comics and graphic books through OverDrive.

Ordering process, loan periods, online reference library and the number of books you can borrow will not change, but nearer the transfer date you may need to take steps such as updating your web browser bookmarks to the new catalogue address.

H&F Council says, “We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the changes but look forward to being able to offer a greatly improved library service. We are committed to helping you with any questions during this period, so if you need any assistance, please ask in branch or by email.”

Like Reading Articles Like This? Help Us Produce More

This site remains committed to providing local community news and public interest journalism.

Articles such as the one above are integral to what we do. We aim to feature as much as possible on local societies, charities based in the area, fundraising efforts by residents, community-based initiatives and even helping people find missing pets.

We’ve always done that and won’t be changing, in fact we’d like to do more.

However, the readership that these stories generates is often below that needed to cover the cost of producing them. Our financial resources are limited and the local media environment is intensely competitive so there is a constraint on what we can do.

We are therefore asking our readers to consider offering financial support to these efforts. Any money given will help support community and public interest news and the expansion of our coverage in this area.

A suggested monthly payment is £8 but we would be grateful for any amount for instance if you think this site offers the equivalent value of a subscription to a daily printed newspaper you may wish to consider £20 per month. If neither of these amounts is suitable for you then contact info@neighbournet.com and we can set up an alternative. All payments are made through a secure web site.

One-off donations are also appreciated. Choose The Amount You Wish To Contribute.

If you do support us in this way we’d be interested to hear what kind of articles you would like to see more of on the site – send your suggestions to the editor.

For businesses we offer the chance to be a corporate sponsor of community content on the site. For £30 plus VAT per month you will be the designated sponsor of at least one article a month with your logo appearing if supplied. If there is a specific community group or initiative you’d like to support we can make sure your sponsorship is featured on related content for a one off payment of £50 plus VAT. All payments are made through a secure web site.
