Demonstrators hold up 'Honk if you hate Elon' signs
March 18, 2025 Over one hundred protestors assembled outside the Tesla garage on the A40 Western Avenue this Saturday (15 March) to protest against Elon Musk. They were part of a global movement called Tesla Takedown which is objecting to the South African billionaire’s support for Donald Trump and his involvement in the U.S. Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The demonstrators in Park Royal had also been angered by his promotion of far-right figures and talking points in the UK. Demonstrators held signs with messages such as "Honk If You Hate Elon" and "Buying A Tesla Helps Trump Hurt The Planet Choose Another EV”. A significant proportion of motorists on the westbound carriageway showed support for the protestors by sounding their horns. Although there have been attacks on Tesla premises in the US and Europe, the London protest passed off peacefully in line with the stated policy of the Tesla Takedown movement. The protests aim to economically impact Elon Musk by encouraging the public to divest from Tesla and challenge his political influence. The Tesla share price, having reached new highs since the election of Donald Trump, has more than halved from its peak and remains under pressure. There have been sharp falls in Tesla sales particularly in Europe although, thus far UK buyers don’t seem to have diverted the brand. In a gesture of support, Donald Trump was pictured on the White House lawn promoting the vehicles and saying that he was going to purchase one.
