Park Royal Food Producers Showcased in Parliament

Event hosted by Rupa Huq for companies in 'London's Kitchen'

Park Royal’s role as one of the country’s most important centres of food production was celebrated in Westminster this week, as Ealing Central and Acton MP Dr Rupa Huq hosted a special “Taste of Park Royal” showcase in Parliament.

The event, held in the Jubilee Room off Westminster Hall, drew a packed audience of MPs, peers and parliamentary staff keen to sample food and drink from some of the industrial estate’s leading producers. Exhibitors included Doughlicious, Cypressa, Peppercorn, Dina Foods, The Felix Project, Valimex and Sxollie cider, representing the breadth of businesses based on the estate.

Park Royal, which spans the boroughs of Brent and Ealing, is London’s oldest and largest industrial estate. Home to around 1,700 businesses and more than 40,000 jobs, it has long been known as “London’s kitchen” for its central role in supplying national supermarkets, Michelin-starred restaurants and even the House of Commons.

Dr Huq said she was delighted to bring the estate’s producers to Parliament. “I’m really pleased to have shone a light on the well-kept secret of Park Royal Industrial Estate in the mother of all Parliaments,” she said. “It has over a century of history behind it, from knocking out warplanes and printing the Radio Times to the world food that supplies central London and media studios today.”

She noted that while other MPs often showcase entire counties, Park Royal alone was able to fill a room with exhibitors — with many more unable to attend due to space.

Andrew Dakers, chief executive of the Park Royal Business Group, said the event demonstrated why the estate is so vital to London’s economy. “Park Royal is known colloquially as ‘London’s Kitchen’ for good reason,” he said. “It is truly famous for food and an industrial powerhouse keeping the city fed and functioning on a daily basis.”

PRBG manager Sarah Spateri added that the estate is home to “hundreds of the most innovative, inspirational, creative and hardest-working food manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors in the UK.”

Dawn Butler, MP for Brent Central, also addressed the gathering, describing Park Royal as a labyrinth of factories and warehouses supplying everything from everyday essentials to high-tech products.

Wilda Haddad of Dina Foods, which exhibited Middle Eastern flatbreads and baklava, said the event had been a memorable opportunity to raise the estate’s profile. “The buzz of excitement at the incredible array of food being exhibited really put Park Royal on the map,” she said.

Many attendees, including national supermarket buyers, expressed surprise at the scale and diversity of the businesses based on the estate — a sign, organisers said, that Park Royal’s contribution to the UK economy remains under-recognised.
