Kuldev Sehra to contest seat in London Assembly next year
November 9, 2023 The Liberal Democrats have chosen their candidate to fight the Ealing & Hillingdon seat in next year’s Greater London Assembly elections. Kuldev Sehra currently is a councillor in Richmond upon Thames representing the Whitton ward which is adjacent to the boundary of the constituency. He recently joined Hanger Hill councillor Athena Zissimos and Lib Dem Leader of the Opposition Councillor Gary Malcolm to survey residents about crime concerns. Also present was the party’s Ealing Central and Acton parliamentary candidate Alastair Mitton. Mr Sehra said, “In Ealing residents are pleased that the Liberal Democrats continue to take action to help make the streets safer. First, they persuaded the Council to reverse Labour’s streetlight dimming policy. Now, the LibDems want to reduce crime levels further by demanding to see more police regularly patrolling streets of Ealing.” The Ealing & Hillingdon seat includes Acton and the part of Chiswick within Ealing borough will be contested in May on the same day as the Mayoral election. Currently held by Onkar Sahota for Labour, it has elected Conservative members in the past and the party will regard it as a key battleground seat. Dr Sahota retained the seat in 2021 with a reduced majority of 8,242 with the Lib Demis in third place but the Tories will hope a continued backlash against the ULEZ will enable them to regain it. The Uxbridge constituency which they won in a recent by-election is part of Ealing & Hillingdon. There is no announcement as yet confirming that Dr Sahota will be Labour’s candidate and it has been reported that he is facing a challenge from within his party to get the nomination which must be submitted before the end of this month. Ealing and Hillingdon Liberal Democrats have selected Kuldev Sehra as their candidate for the London Assembly seat of Ealing & Hillingdon which takes place next May.
