Man Taken To Hospital After Western Avenue Flat Fire

Three adults and three children had to be taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a house in Ealing this Tuesday (11 June).

Four fire engines and around 25 fire fighters were called to the scene at 7:10pm on Elderberry Road, which is off Popes Lane in Ealing, north of Gunnersbury Park. Crews from Chiswick, Heston, Park Royal and Hammersmith fire stations attended.

When they arrived, they found the six people outside suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation. London Ambulance Service paramedics treated them at the scene before sending them to hospital.

By the time the fire was totally under control at 8.25pm, the first floor of the two-storey house was fully destroyed, and the ground floor was partially damaged.

The fire is believed to be accidental and caused by sunlight reflecting off a glass object within the room.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson said, “These sorts of fires are not as rare as you would think. They can happen all year around, but as we head into summer and the sun gets stronger, it’s really important that reflective items such as mirrors, crystals and glass ornaments are kept out of direct sunlight.”
