Arson suspected after incident required closure of two lanes of the A40

A man had to be taken to hospital after a fire broke out in a flat on Western Avenue in Acton this Friday (16 April).
The police as well as Fire Brigade are investigating the cause of the fire which took hold at around 4.49 PM in the four-roomed flat on the second floor.
Smoke billowing across the A40 required two lanes to be closed causing significant congestion in the area.
Sub Officer Amanda Glover, who was at the scene, said, “There was heavy smoke in the area and two lanes were closed on Western Avenue whilst crews worked swiftly to make the scene safe.
“A man left the affected flat before the Brigade arrived and was then led to safety from the second floor by firefighters.”
The incident was uncontrol within an hour. Fire crews from Park Royal, Acton, Willesden and Chiswick fire stations attended the scene.
It is the second fire along this stretch of the A40 so far this year. On 17 February a house caught fire on Western Avenue causing the closure of the road and a large plume of smoke which was visible across west London.
