Police cadets find 160 cars displaying tempting goods
The Ealing Borough Volunteer Cadets decended on Ealing Broadway Town Centre on several days in the run up to Christmas. They approached motorists reminding them public that taking a few seconds to cover up their valuables, or taking them with them, may save them from being the next victim of vehicle crime. During this time they also distributed hundreds of motor vehicle crime preventative leaflets. The fifteen cadets discovered approximately 160 cars during this crime prevention initiative, which contained property, such as mobile phones, laptops, various items of clothing, DVD's, CD's and wrapped Christmas presents on full view in side the vehicles. The index of each vehicle, which the cadets discovered property on show was noted down. This information is now being forwarded to the DVLA who in turn will send a crime prevention letter to the registered keeper outlining the dangers of leaving any valuable items on show in their unattended vehicle. When working together with others in the Policing family and partners, they can make a real difference to public safety and help reduce crime and the fear of crime in Ealing borough.� Borough Commander Martin Bridger Borough Police�Members of the MPS Volunteer Cadet Corps are dedicated volunteers wanting to make a difference in their own local Borough. They support policing and community activities and are a valuable resource, available to help support initiatives at a local level.� The Ealing Borough Volunteer Police Cadets is open to all young people on Ealing Borough between 14-19yrs. It is a useful hobby for young people who are interested in pursuing a career in the police and also those who are looking to become well-rounded individuals. The Cadets meet every Thursday night between 6:30pm and 9:30pm at Perivale Community Centre. The meetings consist of lessons in topics such as law, police procedures and crime prevention. They also have drill practice and do a variety of sports. Cadets also have a regular opportunity to take part in policing local and pan-London events for instance Trooping of the Colour. The Cadets have been involved in crime prevention for Operation Safer Streets by property marking of mobile telephones. They have also been involved in stewarding of local events, such as the Ealing Countryside Fair and Acton Fair. Other events planned in the future for the cadets are an away trip to a Summer Camp in Somerset, participation in the Junior Citizen Scheme, Duke of Edinburgh Scheme Expedition Weekend, Scuba Diving, Sailing and windsurfing. The Duke of Edinburgh's Award is a voluntary, non-competitive programme of practical, cultural and adventurous activities, designed to support the personal and social development of young people aged 14-25, regardless of gender, background or ability. It offers an individual challenge and encourages young people to undertake exciting, constructive, challenging and enjoyable activities in their free time. The Ealing Borough Cadets also reached the finals of the National Cadet Competition which was held at the MPS Training College Hendon on Saturday 11th & Sunday 12th September 2004. This is the first time the cadets have reached the finals. The cadets train all year towards this competition, developing skills in police related topics, building on teamwork and problem solving. The event is designed to test cadets and is a showcase for them, to demonstrate to others how they can be an effective tool in policing their community. What we are looking for:
In order to continue the hard work and dedication the Ealing Borough Volunteer Cadets participate in across the borough they need to find an alternative venue on Ealing Borough. We would like to appeal to the community to help us locate this venue with preferably an outdoor court/playground area.
From local business/companies/organizations so that we can continue to serve the community and at the same time, provide a varied programme of events for our Cadets.
