Berrymede Junior School and Belmont Primary School have been recognsied as two winners of this year's London School Awards which celebrate the best the state education system has to offer.

Organised by the Evening Standard in partnership with Ofsted, Berrymede was hailed as a "Shining example of how to put difficulties aside."  Last year nearly nine out of 10 pupils aged 11 reached the level expected of their age in English, and almost all did so in maths and science.

Situated in the heart of the South Acton Estate, over half the pupils attending the school come from refugee or asylum seeking families, a staggering 83% do not speak English as their first language and nearly two thirds qualify for free school meals.
