West Hill Shell Service Station Partially Closed For Works
With temporary convenience store and Costa in operation

The Shell service station on West Hill has been partially closed for some rebuilding, with reopening of full facilities due in October.
Both the main Costa Coffee outlet and the Budgens forecourt shop, which are housed in the same building, have been temporarily shut while remedial work on the roof and other sections of the building takes place.
Petrol pumps, charging facilities, the 24-hour off-licence and a convenience store remain open - in a newly repurposed building - as does a temporary Costa Coffee shop.
A spokesperson for Motor Fuels Group (mfg), which operates the service station, told this website, “There are going to be various small closures depending on the nature of the work at the time.
“Entire works will finish on or around the 18 October with a relaunch on the 26th – subject to weather, contractor progress and any unforeseen issues.”
Currently the main Budgens and Costa building has been cordoned off while work is carried out on the roof structure. According to Wandsworth council’s planning site, the existing eaves on the eastern elevation of the main building are being slightly lowered, and therefore the roof pitch has to be altered to accommodate the alteration (see image below).

Mfg is the largest independent forecourt operator of petrol stations in the UK. The company tends to use third-party brands on its sites, such as BP, Esso, Texaco, Murco, Jet and, in West Hill’s case, Shell.
The old Esso-branded petrol station on the West Hill site was demolished in the Spring of 2021 to make way for rebuilt and expanded services. Land at the back of the original site – which extended over the District Line tunnel and which was fenced off from the main forecourt – was brought into use for electric vehicle charging and jet wash bays following extensive plans to protect local wildlife
Yorkshire-based garage and parking forecourt planning specialist, Jennings Design, who created designs for the new site, took ecological concerns into account when reclaiming the land. An ecologist was employed before every clearance activity to assess stag beetle larvae, mammals, breeding birds or reptiles found to be on site, and also to ensure measures were taken to prevent the entrapment of any creatures.
