Weekly runs will commence in Battersea Park early next year
Junior parkrun is coming to Battersea Park with weekly runs starting on Sunday January 8, 2023. Junior parkrun is a free and fun event for children aged between four and 14. Parkruns are held at locations all over the country and parents can join their children on the 2km run if they wish. There is already a weekly Sunday Junior Parkrun on Tooting Common. Children can run, walk or jog along the route. The aim is to get children active and involved rather than making them compete. Wandsworth Council Cabinet member for the environment Cllr Judi Gasser said, “Parkrun is a fantastic way for young people to get out, meet others and get some exercise. “We know our parks are really valued by our residents and we want to ensure that everybody has an opportunity to enjoy them and use them to look after their mental and physical health.” There is a weekly Saturday parkrun on Tooting Common for adult runners. Find out more here. The council is also looking into introducing an adult parkrun in Battersea Park. Parkruns are run by volunteers who love running so if you fancy lending a hand go to the volunteer hub.
