Last Chance to Comment on Borough's Night Time Strategy |
|
Have your say on proposed changes affect lighting, transport and licensing The deadline to comment on the first draft of Wandsworth Council’s new Night Time Strategy for Wandsworth is 14 May. People who live, work and visit the borough can have their say on the proposals which were written following feedback from local people on what life is like between 6pm and 6am in their neighbourhood. It sets out the council’s vision for the borough at night time and explores how experiences differ depending on who and where you are, placing a special focus on particular groups including low-income workers, young people and women. It contains a wide range of recommendations, such as improving lighting and transport and encouraging diversity in night time uses for town centres – beyond just eating and drinking. These include changes to the way public transport operates after dark and more liberal licensing arrangements to allow businesses to stay open later. However, the council is anxious to stress that the aim of the strategy is not to encourage more late night drinking in the borough’s town centres. You can click on different sections of the strategy and leave comments just on those that interest you if you wish. Deputy council leader Cllr Kemi Akinola said: “We want our businesses and town centres to thrive, but we also want everyone to feel safe and heard – including night workers, women, marginalised communities and disabled people and people living in more deprived parts of the borough. “Thank you to everyone who has responded to previous call for feedback and helped us create this first draft. Now we want to know if you agree with our conclusions and think we’ve come up with solutions that will make a real difference.”
