Ruth Cadbury Completes Osterley 10k Charity Run | |
MP was raising money for Hounslow Community Foodbox This Saturday (3 December) Ruth Cadbury, MP for Brentford & Isleworth, took part in the Osterley Park run to raise money for Hounslow Community Foodbox. The Brentford-base foodbox serves as a foodbank for thousands of people locally and has seen a huge increase in demand due to both the rising cost of living and, earlier, with the covid-19 pandemic. In 2022 alone the foodbox supported over 8,000 adults and children in the borough with food parcels. Donations for the MP's charity run can still be made via the link to her Just Giving page. Afterwards Ruth Cadbury, who has completed the London Marathon, said, ‘‘Along with Yusuf and Theresa, who volunteer for Foodbox, I was pleased that many people have donated so generously to our fundraising run in Osterley. It was great to see so many other people locally running to raise money for charity. I was even pleased about my time as I’ve not exactly been training hard recently. “It is awful that so many people across the UK are reliant on foodbanks when we live in the 6th richest country in the world. Foodbox make such a huge difference to the thousands of families locally who need support- whether it’s those who need a one-off support package or those who need regular support. “The cost of living crisis, rising energy bills and the continued blight of poor pay means that so many families are struggling to make ends meet. By donating you’re helping foodbox support people locally at a time of need. I know that not everyone will be able to help out financially- you can also donate your time as a volunteer- whether it’s helping to pack food or deliver supplies directly. It all makes such a huge difference.’’
