Covid Patients in St. George's Hospital in Single Figures

Number of admissions has fallen from 350 at February peak

Fewer than 10 people with coronavirus are now being treated at St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

As of 16 April, only one patient was being treated on the wards, while seven were in intensive care.

This compares to more than 350 patients being treated in the hospital during the peak in January.

However, sadly, since March 2020, 750 patients have died at the hospital having tested positive for the virus.

St George’s is one of the largest hospitals in the UK and serves a population of 1.3 million across southwest London.

It has been at the forefront of the coronavirus pandemic over the past year, treating some of the sickest patients, as well as acting as a major vaccination hub in more recent months.

Neighbouring St George’s, University of London, also helped to lead vaccination trials last year, and is still working on cutting edge research into the virus.

With surge testing now taking place across Wandsworth borough after a few cases of the South African variant were identified, the hospital has also been part of the effort to encourage all those living and working in the borough to get tested.
