Hounslow Council Publishes Women's Health Magazine
Part of an initiative to improve female health and awareness

Hounslow Council has released a new publication focused on women’s health, titled Her Hounslow. The magazine is designed to provide residents with accessible information on a range of health topics relevant to women, including preventative care, local services, and wellbeing resources. It is available free of charge in both digital and print formats.
The first edition of Her Hounslow includes articles on baby feeding-friendly venues, cervical cancer prevention, and the borough’s women’s wellbeing hubs. It also features an interview with Dr. Archana Dixit, a local gynaecologist, who discusses menopause and related health considerations. In addition, the magazine contains a heart health quiz that helps readers assess their risk factors and offers guidance on appropriate next steps.
Printed copies of the magazine can be collected from the Health Outreach Team’s shop located in the Treaty Centre in Hounslow , as well as from the Health Outreach Team bus during its community visits. Copies are also being distributed at baby feeding-friendly venues, nail salons, and hairdressers throughout the borough. A digital version is available for download via the council’s website.
Councillor Lily Bath, Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Public Health and Transformation, stated that the publication aims to deliver essential health information to residents and contribute to longer, healthier lives across the borough.
This initiative reflects a wider national movement to improve women’s health services and awareness. In recent years, several local authorities across the UK have launched similar programmes in response to the government’s Women’s Health Strategy for England, published in 2022.
For example, Liverpool City Council has developed Women’s Health Hubs that consolidate reproductive and sexual health services in accessible community settings. Kingston upon Thames has introduced the Kingston Women’s Hub, which offers integrated support for women affected by domestic abuse, including access to health and wellbeing services. Lancashire County Council has implemented workplace policies to support staff experiencing menopause, aiming to reduce health-related inequalities in employment. Newcastle City Council has conducted targeted outreach campaigns to increase cervical screening uptake among underrepresented groups.
These initiatives, including Hounslow’s new publication, demonstrate a growing effort among local authorities to address longstanding gaps in women’s health provision.
