Local Community Groups Receive £270,000 in Grants
Beneficiaries include The Mulberry Centre and the West London Queer Project

Over £270,000 has been handed out to 19 local voluntary and community groups in the borough.
The funding given is the first round of two of Hounslow Council’s Thriving Communities Revenue funding in 2022 which aims to help organisations thatl support young people, carers and families in the borough.
More than £70,000 will support carers across the borough including The Mulberry Centre who look to improve the lives of people affected by cancer. Harrow Carers, first-time beneficiaries, will offer wide-ranging support for carers in our borough, and Osterley-based Our Barn provides specialist support for family carers.
Backing has also been given to the West London Queer Project, who will continue to offer resources and safe spaces for the LGBTQ+ community.
Aubrey Crawley, founder of the West London Queer Project, said, “We have an excellent relationship with Hounslow Council, whose support has already seen our organisation flourish this summer. This funding will help us continue growing and we look forward to further establishing a support network for Hounslow’s LGBTQ+ community.”
Nearly £40,000 has been awarded to sport-related projects including Project Turnover, who, through rugby, seek to re-engage 12–17-year-olds back into education and away from possible exclusion. Hounslow Community Rowing Trust - another first-time beneficiary - provide indoor rowing lessons to state school pupils at Brentford Leisure Centre.
Other new beneficiaries include the Volunteering Matters’ Knowledge Equals Opportunity (KEO) project, who received £25,000, will focus on young people who have found themselves outside mainstream education.
Hounslow Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Equalities, Councillor Shivraj Grewal, said, “It’s exciting to award funding to such a diverse mix of organisations that will help hundreds of residents across the borough. We look forward to working with the borough’s vibrant voluntary and community sector in supporting our residents through increasingly challenging times.”
