Hounslow Council say that they have planned ahead for the failure of services company Carillion and have contingencies in place to take over their one remaining contract with the company.

The only services Carillion were currently providing to the borough was the management of parks, cemeteries and allotments but this contract was already due to end in April. The Council reached an agreement with Carillion to terminate their contract for parks, cemeteries and allotments last November and they say they are well into the detailed planning for these services to move to Lampton 360, the council’s wholly-owned trading company.

Carillion did manage the boroughs libraries until last summer when that contract was taken in house six years before the contract was due to end.

Council leader Steve Curran said, “We have been planning behind the scenes for the potential collapse of Carillion before April for some time, and it has been our intention to transfer the service to Lampton 360 earlier if necessary. We are making sure that the appointed administrators understand our wish to do this, as soon as possible, so that we can protect the staff and the services.

“I have asked Cllr Samia Chaudhary, Cabinet Member for Green Policy and Leisure, to work closely with resident groups and Carillion staff to ensure we have a smooth transfer of these services back to the council. We would like to reassure residents and Carillion staff who work on our contract that we will do everything we can to make the necessary arrangements for the transfer of the service to take place as soon as possible. In the meantime, it is important to note that the services will continue to operate as normal and if residents have any issues regarding the service, they should continue to raise these through the usual channels: phone 0844 456 2796 or email hounslow.info@carillionservices.co.uk.”
