Seven fines were issued in Chiswick this month

Hounslow Council has issued seven on-the-spot fines for littering in Chiswick since the start of the month. Five of these were issued to residents and two were issued to businesses.

The fines can be up to £80.

The Council had promised to tackle the problem of litter which was highlighted by local people and councillors as being a particular problem on Chiswick High Road.

In December Councillor Sue Sampson, cabinet member for economic development and communities, visited Chiswick to see a joint initiative between police and Hounslow Highways street scene crews looking for fly-tips and rubbish on the streets.

A total of 55 on-the-spot fines have been issued since 29 December 2014 across the borough as part of the Council's 'war on grime'.

Cllr Amrit Mann, deputy leader of Hounslow Council and cabinet member for environment, said:
“We want to make Hounslow one of the cleanest boroughs in the capital and as part of this we will not relent in our war on grime crime.”

Hounslow Highways Service Director Rob Gillespie said: “We have done a lot of work to develop the street cleansing and enforcement parts of the contract which is delivering greater benefits.

“We really hope that 2015 brings further improvements and sees a reduction in cleansing and illegal waste problems as we continue to work with the council on their zero tolerance approach, whilst continuing our investment in the backbone of the borough.”
