Pushes his bike into path of driver making an illegal turn
August 12, 2025 The vigilante on a bike, Cycling Mikey was involved in another confrontation with a motorist this Sunday (10 August) when he tried to stop a driver making an illegal turn. A video posted on Instagram shows him cycling north up Paddenswick Road towards the junction with Goldhawk Road in Hammersmith. A five-week project to replace gas pipes in the area by Cadent has required that a three way traffic light system to be implemented at the Seven Stars Corner junction with no access northbound from Paddenswick Road. The footage shows that a number of drivers on Paddenswick Road had failed to spot the warning signs notifying of the closure. While many of them executed a U-turn, some decided to ignore the no entry signs on the right side of the road. Cycling Mikey, whose real name is Michael van Erp, positioned himself by the Kathmandu Inn and blocked a man driving a Fiat 500 from driving on the wrong side of the road. Initially the man reversed back as the light phase meant that traffic was coming in the opposite direction but, when he later made another attempt to do the same manoeuvre, van Erp pushed his bike into the path of the car which knocked it over, scattering his possessions across the road. The car then speeds off in the direction of Chiswick. Van Erp wrote at the end of the video, “I haven't reported it as the Met don't prosecute wrong side of a keep left sign any more that's left to councils. Same for no entry contraventions. I guess the leaving the scene of a collision would be? I think he has a scratch in his bonnet. Tough. Don't use your car as a weapon then. “There is no right about the drivers [sic] actions here. None at all. People driving like this should always be stopped. Selfish and dangerous.” A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said, “We are aware of footage circulating on social media which appears to show an incident on Paddenswick Road, Hammersmith on Sunday, 10 August. "No arrests have been made at this stage. “We urge victims of crime to contact the police by calling 101 or 999 in an emergency.”
Cycling Mikey, is a Dutch-born Londoner who has gained notoriety for filming and reporting traffic violations across the capital. Armed with a helmet-mounted GoPro, he patrols busy junctions—most famously “Gandalf Corner” near Regent’s Park—capturing drivers using mobile phones, running red lights, or endangering cyclists. Since 2019, he claims to have reported over 2,000 drivers, resulting in thousands of penalty points and dozens of disqualifications. His videos, often confrontational, have featured celebrities like Guy Ritchie and Chris Eubank. Though divisive, van Erp’s campaign reflects a grassroots push for road safety and accountability in urban traffic enforcement. Roadworks at this junction are expected to continue into September.
