Site offered free for river link between Barnes and Hammersmith

A proposal is being made for a ferry between Barnes and Hammersmith crossing from Harrods Wharf.
The depository site, best known as a landmark on the route of the University Boat Race is being offered free to Richmond Council to help with a swift solution to the issue of crossing the river during the Hammersmith Bridge closure.
The proposal has been made by Jamie Waller, Chairman of The Princes Trust Enterprise Network who says, “"While there are many initiatives being discussed, the one that will be mobilised quickest is the ferry project. This can be started soon and will provide immediate relief to the many thousands of people.”
A pontoon already exists on the other side of the river at Fulham Reach but it is believed this would be inadequate for a regular service.
The government’s Hammersmith Bridge task force have said it hopes to have a ferry service operational early next year but it is believed they are looking at schemes closer to the bridge.
The Harrods Wharf proposal has walk around terraces that allow multiple pontoon designs to be used regardless of the operator and/or type of vessel enabling boats of all sizes to be used.

The location would avoid using those parts of the Thames riverside subject to flooding and the proposer claims it would provide secure and safe access with lights, steps and a disability ramp.
We have asked both Richmond and Hammersmith & Fulham Councils for comment on the plan but have yet to receive a response.
