Competition celebrates the written and spoken word throughout west London
Are you over 16? Interested in rap and song? Then get going composing and enter Asian Lyrics live, a celebration of London life through rap and song. The first prize for this competition is a fantastic opportunity for any aspiring artist, with the winner getting professional vocal coaching and studio time at the Sanctuary Studios in Watford. There will be three heats for this competition, taking place in Hounslow on 4 March at the Paul Robeson Theatre, Hillingdon on 5 March at the Compass Theatre, Ealing on 11 March at the Dominion Theatre and the final will be held in Kensington on 24 March at Kensington Central library. Once registered for a heat you will then be able to take part in a workshop and get tips and advice from Cathy Edgar, blues singer, songwriter, poet and vocal coach, at the heat to warm you up before performing your own original material. All lyrics and songs must be original works no cover songs are permitted. Asian Lyrics live is part of the westwords literature festival, celebrating the written and spoken word throughout eight west London boroughs. Harrow is leading on this project, which has over 150 different events happening throughout March, and April 2006, including readings, visits from authors, performances, poetry, workshops and discussions.
