Chiswick resident Alex McDevitt is experiencing a ‘Homecoming’ torment as she faces the husband’s family for the first time. Because in Harold Pinter’s famous play The Homecoming, playing at The Questors Theatre in Ealing from 23rd January, Ruth, played by Alex, is surrounded by fairly unusual and dysfunctional men!

Alex told ChiswickW4.com, “As the only female in the play Ruth takes the family challenge head on and manages to handle these men quite well!”

As the play unfolds it seems ‘Ruth’ has quite an impact on the patriarchal family.

Set in North London, the play has six characters: five men who are related; two brothers and three sons; and one woman, wife to one of them. Pinter’s ability to play with characters and difficult situations has generated much discussion. Pinter himself said, “There are no hard distinctions between what is real and what is unreal…” so watching his plays is to expect the unexpected!

This is one of Pinter’s most celebrated plays and has some very amusing moments as well as some shocking ones. The Questors felt that it was time to pay homage to one of our greatest playwrights who died in December 2008 and chose The Homecoming as one of the most renowned plays from the Nobel Prize winning author.

The Questors Theatre, Europe’s largest community theatre, presents around 20 productions each year and The Homecoming follows sellout Christmas productions of A Christmas Carol and Tom Stoppard’s Rock ’n’Roll.

The Homecoming runs from 23rd to 30th January, and for tickets or call the Box Office on 020 8567 5184 or visit www.ealingtheatre.com.
