On Saturday 5 March the Capital Girls League is planning to host its Cup Semi Finals in partnership with the Women’s EURO Legacy Team at Gunnersbury Sports Hub.

The event will celebrate that there will be just 123 days until the Women’s EURO tournament begins.

Over 32 of the League’s top teams will be in action across 4 pitches on the day, including London City Lionesses, AFC Wimbledon, Millwall Lionesses, and local grassroots clubs Actonians LFC, Ruislip Rangers FC and AFC Leyton. Teams from U10 to U18 age groups will be involved.

The event also marks the centennial of the 50-year ban on women’s football but more importantly celebrates 50 years of the Greater London Women’s Football League and 10 years of the Capital Girls League.

The Capital Girls League (CGL) is the largest girls’ football league and community in Greater London and is totally supported by the dedication of volunteers serving a population of over 1,800 registered girls.

The CGL is a tri-county girls’ league launched as a joint venture between Middlesex FA, London FA & Amateur FA to support and nurture the growth of the girls’ game.

This season marks the 10th Anniversary of providing development and competitive football and the CGL has recently been awarded Grassroots League of The Year 2021.

The tournament at the Gunnersbury Sports Hub will run from 9am to 4pm and will be streamed live on CGL’s Instagram & TIKTOK accounts.

Other activities will run alongside the football main event, including:

• Photo booth: take a selfie with the UEFA Women’s EURO trophy;
• Story-telling studio where there will be interviews with players, coaches, 4 County FA Leads of Female Participation, The Greater London Women’s Football League (GLWFL) Secretary, GLWFL players, Women’s Super5 Players to ask what the next 50 years of female football holds.
• Food outlets: Cripes it’s Crepes, King’s Burgers, Greedy Vegan, Heart & Soul and Touring Pourers;
• DJ
• TIKTOK Challenges

Gunnersbury Park Museum is hosting a major exhibition on the history of women’s football as part of the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 Heritage Programme.
