The
second Ealing Festival of Film Comedy at UGC Cinemas Ealing, 29 January
- 12 February 2004
The best
in film comedy from around the world comes to West London. From the classics
of the 1940s and 1950s to the latest talent emerging from the Studios,
you could say that film comedy is Ealing’s heritage.
Opening with
a sneak preview of the American smash hit comedy 'The School of Rock'
just for starters. Highlights will also include a special Ealing Audience
Award which will give film goers the chance to vote for their favourite
film from a special programme of exclusive European films not yet seen
in the capital.
But that's
not all, there will also be a special screening of silent comedies from
the early part of the last century, with live piano accompaniment at Ealing
Town Hall. Just to confirm Ealing's heritage of film comedy, one of these
short films was shot in Ealing and shows the original tram in action on
the Uxbridge Road.
Meera
Syal will be attending the Festival. The comedy writer and actor, who
plays the flirtacious granny in 'The Kumars at No. 42' will be answering
audience questions following a screening of Anita and Me ( Cert 12a) on
Monday 2 Feb 2pm. The event takes place at UGC Cinemas in association
with UGC Cinemas and Tongues on Fire - the Asian Womens Film Festival.
Tickets can be purchased from UGC Cinemas Ealing box office in person
or by phone (tel 0870 907 0719) from 3pm Wednesday 28 Jan
The Comedy
in the UK strand features Brit Shorts - a programme of award winning short
films from the likes of the infamous Chris Morris. The closing night film
'One For The Road' is a bitter sweet tale about a motley bunch characters
that meet on a rehabilitation course for drink drivers.
Cary Grant's
centenary year will not go by unnoticed by any film fan and the screening
of two of his most popular comedies - 'His Girl Friday' and 'Bringing
up Baby' celebrates the career of this much loved actor.
Schools also
- dont miss out as there are a number of study linked screenings that
are free to schools in the borough.
