The Brentford and Chiswick Local History Society hosts a talk by John Collins
October 12, 2023 The Brentford and Chiswick Local History Society is returning to the Chiswick Memorial Club for its programme of talks for autumn. The events can also be access by Zoom technology allowing. The next meeting of the Brentford and Chiswick Local History Society will feature a talk on the refurbishment of Boston Manor House in Brentford John Collins, Hounslow's Historic Houses Manager, has overseen the multi-million pound, award-winning restoration of Boston Manor House. He will show how a greater understanding of the building and recent research about its occupants have informed the new presentation for visitors. Mr Collins has also overseen Hogarth’s House since it reopened to the public after a major refurbishment in 2011 and been a key figure in the Mulberry Garden project at the house, a five year National Lottery Heritage Fund funded scheme which saw a new learning studio built and a redesigned exhibition garden both open to the public in 2021. Before this he was Community Development Manager at Imperial War Museum North and has a background in the field of community engagement with historic sites and their collections. The meeting takes place on Monday 16 October at 7.30pm at the usual venue of the Chiswick Memorial Club at Bourne Place. Membership of the Brentford & Chiswick Local History Society ensures that you receive details of the Society’s programme of talks and outings and entitles you to a copy of the annual Journal. From time to time there are opportunities to join a small research group or assist with a local history project. Meetings, usually on the third Monday of the month, take place at Chiswick Memorial Club, Bourne Place, off Dukes Avenue opposite Chiswick Library. The membership year runs from January to December and the annual subscription costs £9.00.
