Putney High School Welcome Peer
Baroness Wilkins from the House of Lords as part of the Peers in Schools programme

The programme aims to raise awareness of the role of the House of Lords and to encourage young people to get involved in politics.
Baroness Wilkins, whose political interests lie within topics of disability, housing, international development and energy conservation, spoke to students about her life as a peer, and gave an insight into working at the Houses of Parliament.
Baroness Hayman, who devises and manages the Peers in Schools Programme, said:
‘It is vital that people understand what goes on and how they are able to interact with parliamentarians to promote and progress causes which are important to them.’
The visit was a great opportunity for girls, many of whom are studying the House of Lords as part of their politics studies.
Suzie Longstaff, Head of Sixth Form at Putney High School, said:
‘It was a most informative talk. Baroness Wilkins was incredibly down to earth and approachable and provided the girls with an invaluable insight into the modern issues that the House of Lords faces.’
