Don't forget those still in limbo following the riots

Whilst many shops have managed to repair and rebuild following the riots, two of the worst hit businesses - the Ealing Green Local and the Green Mango café, are still shut.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of damage was caused at the Green Mango and devastated owner Zakar Hussain, has had to put his house on the market.

Meanwhile the Ealing Green supermarket - ablaze on the night of 8th August is now a boarded up shell. Tenants who lived above the have had to be rehoused and a clear up operation is ongoing.

Yesterday Sukiran Khurmy along with her sister Simmi and close friend Shannon, paid a visit to the remnants of her parents' burnt out shop.

Deeply affected by what happened, the girls painted a simple message of thanks for the support shown by the local community.

Sukiran says her parents put everything into the Ealing Green Local and the events of the 8th August have been a body blow to them:

She says: ''My dad Ravi came back to the shop on the night of the riots and witnessed what was happening. It was horrific. He was powerless to stop the gangs and had to go home where he watched on TV as his business went up in flames.''

Ravi's shop - for the last two and a half years - was destroyed in one night of mindless criminality.

Sukiran thanks the council for their efforts but says her family is now in a painful limbo waiting to hear what funds may be available to help them survive while they rebuild.
