Ealing School Children to Perform at the Royal Albert Hall
Over 1,400 to participate in concert showcasing borough's talent

More than 1,400 children attending schools in the borough of Ealing are to participate in a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall later this month.
The event on Tuesday 24 June, titled ‘Ealing Together – Harmony in Diversity’, will showcase Ealing the area’s talent in the iconic venue, with the additional aim of fostering a sense of community amongst the schools and participating music groups.
The concert will include the world premiere of ‘Ada’ a work by local Ealing composer Laura Rossi, commissioned by The Ealing Symphony Orchestra (ESO in 2022 to mark the orchestra’s centenary with a libretto penned by children’s author (and Questors theatre alumnus) Michael Rosen. The concert will also feature works by local composers, Hannah Kendall and Liz Sharma as well as more familiar repertoire such as O Fortuna from Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, and Adiemus by Karl Jenkins.
Ealing Music Service (EMS) and ESO are collaborating for ‘Ealing Together’ which will see a variety of Ealing-based youth music groups appear alongside the fifty-strong Ealing Symphony Orchestra.
Ensembles involved include Ealing Youth Orchestra, Ealing Youth Jazz Orchestra, and other Cadenza ensembles run by EMS.
In addition, a choir of over 1,200 schoolchildren is being recruited from local schools across the borough, with 40 schools already confirmed.
This is the first time that EMS has organised an event at this scale for local Ealing schoolchildren and youth groups.
Chair of ESO, Jo Boswell, said, “We wanted to plan something really special to mark the centenary of the ESO in 2022, but we were struggling to see these plans to fruition in the wake of the pandemic. This partnership with EMS enables us to realise our dream of seeing the orchestra perform at the Royal Albert Hall; but more importantly we think it will cement a much closer collaboration in the future across the different music groups in Ealing.”
Leader of Ealing Council, Councillor Peter Mason, said, "This concert is a brilliant example of what happens when we invest in our young people and bring communities together through culture. More than a thousand children from across Ealing will take to one of the world’s most iconic stages - showing the power of music to unite, inspire and celebrate the incredible talent we have right here in our borough. It’s a proud moment for Ealing, and a sign of what we can achieve when we work together."
Cabinet member for a fairer start at Ealing Council, Councillor Josh Blacker, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to showcase local talent as well as foster a sense of collaboration and community within the borough of Ealing.”
