AI being used to make it easier to access historic requests
March 19, 2025 Ealing Council has launched a new Freedom of Information (FOI) Disclosure Log which can be searched using artificial intelligence (AI). An FOI Log is an open public mechanism to enable residents and journalists to access council information on a wide range of subjects and activities strengthening transparency, democracy and participation across the borough. The Liberal Democrat opposition is claiming credit for the move after lobbying for its introduction over the last two years. Leader of the Opposition, Councillor Gary Malcolm said, “Liberal Democrats say it is two years since I first asked for an FoI public log and received the response that it would be available three months later. Why has this simple request taken so long when other councils have had similar logs up and running for years! We welcome this update to the website although still quite basic in its use of AI. I am pleased that this has finally been implemented. It is a significant win for Ealing residents and the Liberal Democrats!” Click here to use the new FOI Log.
