Daniel Goldsmith, (in centre of image) the Green Party candidate for Brentford and Isleworth, joined members of Extinction Rebellion (XR) Hounslow and other concerned citizens to plant 90 saplings in Lampton Park, Hounslow on the morning of 30 November.

The saplings planted include Beeches, Birches, Hawthorn, Field Maple, Hornbeam, Hazel, Oak and Sweet Chestnut.

Two employees of Lampton 360, a company owned by Hounslow Council, assisted and advised the planting.

The event was part of the Woodland Trusts National event, ‘The Big Climate Fightback’ to raise awareness of the Climate Emergency.

Daniel said “After talking and writing about the importance of urgent action to tackle climate change in the General Election 2019 it was great to be able to personally take action. It took less than 2 hours for us to plant the 90 saplings. Many thanks to XR Hounslow for organising a very enjoyable and constructive morning, and for the two gentlemen from Lampton 360, who were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

“The Green Party propose to plant 700 million trees as part of the Green New Deal, and this morning has shown that this is feasible”.

The other candidates in the forthcoming General Election are:

Ruth Cadbury -The Labour Party

Helen Cross- The Liberal Democrats Party

Seena Shah - The Conservative Party

Lucy O'Sullivan - The Brexit Party
