Jobs Convoy To Be Held To Support Decently Paid Work | ||||
'Highly visible' drive through West London organised by local unions
The West London Job Convoy is to be held this Tuesday 20 October. Described as a ‘highly visible drive’ it will depart from Southall at 10am and then proceed to Heathrow via Ealing, Chiswick and Brentford. The organisers are Ealing Trades Union Council, West London Unite Community and Hillingdon Trades Union Council and they are protesting for the Right to Work in a decent job. They say that as the UK is one of the richest countries in the world it should be possible to save jobs and extend the furlough scheme. They also say that people should be put before profit, the rich should pay more taxes and useful and green jobs should be created. The convoy will assemble at 10.00 am in the car park of Norwood Hall, Norwood Green Road, Southall UB2 4LA. A short rally will be held there and posters will be attached to participating cars. The protest will then proceed down to the Uxbridge Road and stay on this road for 3.3 miles though Hanwell, West Ealing and Ealing until reaching the junction with the North Circular. At which point it will turn down Gunnersbury Avenue toward Chiswick Roundabout and then take the A315 towards Brentford and Hounslow before ending near Heathrow airport at the Bedfont and Feltham Football Club. Once the convoy has assembled it will head off for a final trip around the Heathrow Perimeter Road. The organisers were unsure of how many vehicles would be participating in the convoy but estimated a range of 20-50.
