London Cycling Campaign is urging commuters to beat the stress of the tube strike by cycling to work.

LCC is encouraging cyclists to band together to form 'BikeTubes', groups of like-minded commuters cycling from tube stations to central London locations.

A new website,, is coordinating these rides. The website also provides essential information for new and returning cycle commuters, such as tips on route-planning, maintenance, bike shop maps, safe cycling, and cycle hire.

The RMT union announced a 48 hour walkout over pay and job cuts which will commence at 18.59 hours on Tuesday 9th June through to 18.58 hours on Thursday 11th June.

RMT general secretary Bob Crow said, “After months of stonewalling LUL has also tabled what is at best a five-year pay freeze which it knows full well could never be accepted, and its managers appear to have been given the nod to unleash a fresh round of bullying."

LCC is calling on employers to encourage more people to get to work by providing improved cycle facilities, such as allowing workers to bring bikes into the building.

Chief executive Koy Thomson said, "Cycling could save our city millions in lost output if workers are encouraged to follow the mayor's example and commute by bike. We advise you to visit our website, and use this weekend to prepare yourself and your bike. The site contains everything you need to make this tube strike the last one to affect you."
