South Western Railway Publishes Details of Strike Day Services | |
Just two trains an hour at most local stations South Western Railway (SWR) has published details of the planned services it is laying on during the national rail strike on Saturday 1 October. It plans to run a severely reduced service between 7.15am and the early evening with just two trains an hour running between Waterloo and Feltham serving stations such as Wandsworth Town, Putney, Kew Bridge, Brentford, Syon Lane and Isleworth. There will be four trains per hour calling at Waterloo and Woking which will call at Wimbledon. Southern will be running two trains per hour between London Victoria and Epsom Down which will call at Wandsworth Common and Balham. SWR expects disruption to continue into the following day (Sunday 2 October) and is advising passengers only to travel by rail if absolutely necessary on these two days. SWR services will not be affected by the second day of strikes by train drivers who are members of ASLEF which is taking place on 5 October. Significant parts of the network will be closed entirely and those trains that are running will be far less frequent and much busier compared to normal. Staff at Network Rail, more than 2,100 SWR members of the RMT union, and SWR members of the TSSA union are taking strike action. Network Rail will provide contingency cover for critical roles including electrical control room operators, signallers, maintenance, and response teams, but will not be able to cover the whole day. South Western Railway’s Performance and Planning Director, Steve Tyler, said. “I’m sorry that due to strike action we must urge our customers to only travel if absolutely necessary on Saturday 1 October and Sunday 2 October. Those needing to travel should seek to do so by other means. “Large parts of our network will be closed on the strike day and there will be a late start up on the morning after. Those who must travel are urged to carefully check the times of first and last trains and avoid them if possible as they are likely to be very busy. “We are grateful to our customers for their continued cooperation, patience, and understanding as the rail industry works to bring this damaging nationwide strike action to an end.” The Night Overground on Friday 30 September will run until around 4am on Saturday 1 October, which is an earlier finish than normal There will be no service on the entire London Overground network from around 4am on Saturday morning as a result of ASLEF strike action RMT strike action on national rail services will also impact services on London Overground as well as parts of the District and Bakerloo lines. Services will be disrupted on the District line between Wimbledon and Parson’s Green and between Richmond and Turnham Green, with limited services running between 7:15am and 6.30pm only and minor delays from 6pm expected from Parson’s Green to Upminster The Piccadilly line will have no service between Acton Town and Heathrow Airport on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 October. Rail replacement buses will run to Heathrow from both Acton Town and Hammersmith On Sunday 2 October services will start slightly later on the London Overground, Bakerloo and District lines with a good service expected by late morning On Wednesday 5 October strike action is taking place by train drivers on London Overground who are part of the ASLEF union meaning that there will be no service on the entire London Overground network With Network Rail signallers on strike, there is likely to be an impact on some London Underground services on 1 October particularly on the Richmond and Wimbledon branches of the District Line. London Overground drivers who are members of ASLEF will be on strike.
