The Green School delivers record breaking performance
Local schools have delivered and excellent set of GCSE results again this year despite a national decline in the average pass rate. Students across the borough have maintained the same level of performance as last year. 63% gained grades A*-C including English and Maths, which is well above the most recent available national average figures (2011). St Marks Catholic School recorded an impressive 80% A*-C including English and Maths not far behind was Gunnersbury Catholic School with 75%. Eric Addy and Peter Rutzler at St Mark’s Catholic School each achieved ten A* grades. Bethany Ames, Ella Whiddet and Nahom Yocob Yemane gained nine A* grades. Hounslow Manor School attained its best ever results to show a 6% increase which represents a significant and continuing improvement. Marais Leenders, Headteacher at Brentford School for Girls said, "Another splendid set of results this year. The improvement in results for foundation subjects has been particularly pleasing. Some disappointment around English Language results, lets hope they get things right in the future." Top performers at Isleworth and Syon School for Boys include Jay Polley (9.5A*, 1A, 1B) and Daniel Norris (6.5A*, 3A, 3B). The school also had excellent science results with an unprecedented 49 A* grades awarded to students.
Cllr Steve Curran, Hounslow’s cabinet member for education, said: “In spite of the apparent government pressure to apply new rigour to GCSE marking this has been another very good year for Hounslow students and I am delighted that standards have been maintained. Judith Pettersen, Director of Children’s Services at Hounslow Council, added: “This is an excellent set of results. Our young people can be very proud of their GCSE and vocational qualification achievements. Hounslow is well served by our secondary schools and it is not surprising that all are currently judged good or outstanding by Ofsted. My congratulations go to all the students, their parents, teachers and school governors who have supported them along the way.” August 24, 2012 |
