A Level passes at up again and local schools buck the national trend with better GCSE grades A Level and
GCSE results for local schools show a generally better trend in exam passes.
Most schools in the area are reporting better pass rates and higher grades,
with more students achieving straight As than ever before. Top students include Eleanor Green and Gemma Pritchard who both achieved three A grades. There was a similar picture at GCSE level with the percentage of students achieving A* to C grades rising from 38% to 46% James Whiting, deputy head, commented, �These are Chiswick�s best results for six years, the second year of improvement and an 8 percent improvement on last year, which show that Chiswick is an improving school At Isleworth and Syon School for Boys over two thirds of pupils received an A-C grade at A Level. Arvinder Virk achieved 4 A grades pls an A grade at A/S level and will be going to study maths at Cambridge. Ollie Rampley will be studying English at Oxford. For GCSEs at the school thirty students gained at least 10 passes at A*-C, an impressive 18% of the year group. Assistant Headteacher of the Green School, where 64% of students achieved A-C grades at A Level, Tim Fagan said, �This is another excellent set of results reflecting a great deal of hard work on the part of both students and teachers� For GCSEs results were down on last year but there were some good individual performances with Amiy Richardson getting 8 A* grades and 4 A grades. Sarah Ahmed achieved within the top 5 marks in the country for her Urdu GCSE. Gunnersbury Catholic School achieved a 97% pass rate at A Level with Frixos Kaimakamis getting 4 grade As. Headteacher John Heffernan said, �I�m absolutely delighted with our results this year, which is built on the success of previous years. These results are a testimony to the hard work of staff and students�. For GCSEs the percentage of students receiving 5 or more A*- grades was 72% up from 60% last year. 28 boys achieved 5 or more A grades and one year 9 pupil received a top 5 mark out of 35,000 entries. Gumley House School had a very successful year at GCSE level with the highest number of students getting A*- C grades in the borough. The Headteacher said, �These are wonderful results reflecting the hard work and commitment of staff and students. I am very proud of all of them.� At Brentford
School for Girls 49.2 % of students passed 5 or more GCSEs at
A* to C grades including Resham Raichandau who achieved 2 A*grades and
7 A grades. Headteacher Sue Higgins said, �We are delighted with these
results. A very large number of pupils have achieved much higher grades
than expected. It is the hard work of pupils and staff which has contributed
primarily to these examination successes.� Latymer Upper School (students and head pcitured right) saw one third of candidates achieve three or more Grade �A� passes at A Level, with three of these pupils passing five or more subjects with an A Grade. The School again beat their own record: 49% of A level passes are Grade A, and 78% Grade A or B.
