Weekend cleaning blitz produces smart results

Residents have helped transform grotty areas of Chiswick during a weekend cleaning blitz on September 8, 9 and 10.

Clean-ups took place in an number of locations including the footpath that links Dukes Avenue to Duke Road (known to those who use is regularly as dog-poo alley).

Local residents and children wearing green T-shirts with the Council’s “Smarten Up” message got involved and lent a hand to also transform a rundown area close to Chiswick Common.

Specific work included graffiti removal from an alleyway and car park in Bond Street, and the re-painting of a children’s playground in Clifton Gardens.

Members of Chiswick Soka Gakkai International, a lay Buddhist organisation, removed graffiti from a mural at the playground and restored it to its former state.

Cllr Phil Andrews, lead member for community safety, took part in the clean-up.  He said “I would like to thank people who gave up their own time to support the clean-ups in Hounslow and Chiswick. Both made a small, but significant difference to their local communities.”
