Council Brings In New Parking Enforcement

PCN’s for motorists who park across dropped kerbs

From Monday 11 August Hounslow Council will be taking enforcement action against motorists who park across dropped kerbs.

The enforcement is being done under the Traffic Management Act 2004 and will cover the dropped kerbs which have been provided to assist pedestrians in crossing a road as well as raised footways (ie. where the footway has been raised to assist pedestrians in safely crossing the road).

Motorists who park on the road blocking either will be issued with a PCN. Previously the Council has not been able to impose a fine unless a vehicle had its wheels on the pavement.

A spokesperson for the council said, “The new enforcement of dropped kerbs is necessary for two reasons. One is that it is easier for those with buggies and wheelchairs or the elderly or infirmed to cross a road easier and safer.

"Secondly, when vehicles are not parked right on the junctions (where these dropped are generally located), this gives a clearer view for drivers and pedestrians alike.”
