Hundred years since foundation marked with mini-tournament
Last weekend Northfields Cricket Club celebrated its centenary with a mini-tournament at its ground at the Durston House School playing field on Swyncombe Avenue. Over 40 current and former players attended and the stars of the day were former players Jess Murray and Jamie Shill as well as current players such as the evergreen Damian Egan and 13-year-old Zohib Kochi. Several generations attended, from ‘senior’ statesmen who started playing in the 1970s to younger members still at school who are just embarking on their careers. The club thanked Brian Downard, Nigel Russell, David Redhead and Dave Garner for organising the event. Northfields Cricket Club is a friendly but competitive club welcoming all abilities, including players of league standard, enthusiastic club cricketers, those wanting to return to the game and complete beginners. Its home ground is on the corner of Swyncombe Avenue and Windmill Avenue W5 4DR, a 5 minute walk from Northfields station (Piccadilly Line). E2 bus also stops near the ground.
