A Queen Charlotte’s Hospital doctor, and former celebrity fiancé, is to become the Queen’s gynaecologist.

Alan Farthing, who is the former fiancé of murdered BBC Television presenter Jill Dando, is due to be officially appointed to the position next week.

The prestigious post is likely to see him deliver the next generation of royal children, including any babies born to Princes William and Harry.

Farthing will take over from the Queen’s current gynaecologist, Marcus Setchell, who delivered the Countess of Wessex's two babies.

As well as working at Queen Charlotte’s Hospital in Ducane Road, the consultant gynaecologist also practices at St Mary’s in Paddington and at a private Harley Street clinic.

Farthing was engaged to Crimewatch presenter, Jill Dando, for just three months before she was shot and killed outside her Fulham home nearly ten years ago.

He went on to marry Dr Janet Stowell in March of this year, after the couple met while Stowell was training at St Mary's.
