Harmondsworth Man Finishes Walk to Scotland |
To ask Scotland not to support Heathrow expansion
Local man walks 400 miles from London to Edinburgh in bid to prevent the building of the Third Runway at Heathrow. 55-year-old dad Neil Keveren ended his walk on Thursday 27 April at 9.30am with message for the Scottish Government.
He finished a 400-mile marathon walk from his home in Harmondsworth village near Heathrow Airport to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday as he seeks to send a message to the Scottish Government that he believes Heathrow expansion is a bad idea and they should drop their support for it. Mr Keveren began his walk at 12-noon on Tuesday 4 April and has passed through many villages, towns and cities in England, meeting MPs, campaigners and residents along the way. Crossing the Scottish Border on Sunday, 23 April, Neil has battled tough weather conditions as he made his way through South Scotland, in his determination to send the message to the Scottish Government. Neil Keveren, Harmondsworth resident born in the neighbouring village of Sipson, said: “Throughout the past three weeks I have met many politicians and campaigners across England in the hope of changing their minds from supporting a third runway at Heathrow. Now I am in Scotland, I will be meeting a series of Scottish politicians and will seek to persuade them that a third runway cannot be delivered. “A third runway at Heathrow would leave Scottish taxpayers with a multi-billion-pound bill, would far from guarantee any lasting benefits for Scotland, be incompatible with climate change targets and result in the destruction of thousands of homes." Stop Heathrow Expansion, the local campaign group based around Harmondsworth, is supporting Neil’s walk and visit to the Scottish Parliament on Thursday. |
