The management of Gunnersbury Park has announced that it expects work on the rebuilding of the café to be completed by the end of this year.

It is intending to start a tender process to appoint a new operator with a view to reopening early in 2023.

The building, which only opened two years previously, was destroyed by fire in May 2020. The new cafe had included space to display historic carriages and replaced a structure built in the fifties.

Items including a penny farthing and a Hansom cab were saved by firefighters and restored after being damage in the fire.

Currently temporary refreshment stands near the main house provide food and drink for park visitors.

It has also been announced that the first phase of restoration of restoring the Small Mansion roof is due to be completed in August. The park’s management says it will be working with both Hounslow and Ealing councils to develop the next phases of work and settle on an end use for the building.
